Screed Malta
When laying microcement, laminated floors, or tiles, it is necessary to use a screed if the structural base is not levelled.
Its main purpose is to give a smooth finish and level floor to place your chosen floor finish.
Self-levelling are not meant to serve as a finished surface and should always be covered with a floor finish, such as microcement, tiles, or laminated floors.
This is also the favoured medium when using underfloor heating systems.
Best Practices
Best practice recommends that to avoid movement issues, and should not cover an area of more than 40m² or a distance in any one direction longer than 8m unless expansion joints are used to subdivide areas. We also place an anti-crack mesh and/or add fibers to the mix itself.

FIBRE REINFORCED SCREED
It’s reinforced using polypropylene fibers or metal meshes to reduce the risk of cracking and bending when it dries, restraining the drying stress generated from the cement.
SELF-LEVELLING FLOOR SCREED
This contains additives that enable it to self-level to a certain degree, giving less work for the worker. These types of flooring are often delivered ready-mixed and pumped straight onto a well-prepared surface, improving the speed of application and reducing waste.
LIGHTWEIGHT SCREED WITH EXPANDED CLAY
The most significant advantage of a lightweight flooring with expanded clay is its weight. The traditional screed with concrete has an impressive weight, which in some cases makes its use almost impossible to use.
FAST-DRYING SCREED
This is made using special additives to speed the drying process.
It is suitable for use in areas where a reduction in downtime is paramount and is frequently used in industrial, commercial, and hospital structures.
Traditional screeds take weeks to dry before placing the final floor ( microcement, tiles, etc.). The drying time can increase if the environmental conditions are poor (rain, moisture, high humidity).
With this fast-drying method, we decrease that time considerably.
This method is also available as a reinforced flooring for heavy use areas, making it very popular in modern construction projects.
SCREED WITH UNDERFLOOR HEATING
Many homeowners opt for underfloor heating, which uses electric elements or water pipes to heat the space. When installing underfloor heating systems, the components or pipes are encased in a layer of floating floor concrete, which incorporates the thermal insulation layer.
